HI!Is it possible to analyze models that are bigger that 10000 units in ABAQUS CAE? Or it has to be done manually through input file?I entered the approximate size 10000 at the beginning, which is maximum allowable size, and them program lets me draw much bigger model, 20,000 units pipeline in this instance, but it crashes even before i am done creating the part. Usually while dimensioning

Modeling Reinforce Concrete under cyclic loads

Dear friends,

I am quite new in modeling concrete in ABAQUS. I wish to model a connection made of concrete under cyclic loads. Could anyone give me a hand and refer me to a basic work developed in this field.

Thanks

PLEASE HELP! - Foundations in Abaqus

Submitted by Anna G on

Hello,

I'm a new Abaqus user. I'm trying to model deep and shallow foundations in Abaqus with Mohr Coulomb failure criterion. Without success unfortunately :(

Would anyone be that kind and help me? If it is only possible please send me *.cae file or a link where I can find it. With examples of this kind of modelling and I will try to learn and find mistakes in my model.

Thank You in advance

Regards,

Anna

Abaqus - INP file number precision

Submitted by neslon on

Hi all!

I am working in a design optimization process MATLAB-ABAQUS and i need that abaqus writes the nodal coordinates in the inp file with at least 12 significant digits. If i change nodal output precision to full in the job manager i only get 9 digits.

I already changed numDigits in session.journalOptions.defaultFormat, session.journalOptions.fieldReportFormat and session.journalOptions.geometryFormat by submitting in the command line

nf = NumberFormat(numDigits=12, precision=0, format=ENGINEERING)

Abaqus viscoelastic material time domain

Submitted by M.Goeke on

Hi,

i have a problem with the domain TIME = FREQUENCY DATA.

My test data is taken from a triaxial compression test wit constant
temperature and amplitude of the load, and ten preassigned frequencies.
The mastercurve from the data allows me to use any frequency of the
tested array.

The conversions from elastic modulus[E] to modulus of elasticity in
shear [G], and bulk modulus of elasticity [K] an their real and
imaginary parts are obvious.

The problem is that abaqus only accepts 50 per cent of the input data.

The damping ratio, used in quasi-static problems, such as sheet forming, stamping, forging, is that role, b, shown in the following equation

Ma+bCv=P-F

For the problems mentioned above, the value of b is about 0.1.  if dynamic explicit method is employed, the simulation may encounters steady problem, while convergence problem for implicit method employed.  I think, you can search some articles on damping in sheet metal forming, then you will understand the effect of this damping ratio.

ABAQUS Johnson-Cook damage model

Submitted by Johnson G on

The constants of the Johnson–Cook fracture criterion D1, D2 ,D3,D4 and D5 are identified from tensile tests or torsion tests, but I don't kown about  the specific procedure to obtain the constants. sigma*=sigma(m)/sigma,sigma(m) is the average of the three normal stresses, sigma  is the von Mises equivalent stress. The sigma (stress)obtained from the tests is corresponding to the which sigma in the equation. Thanks for your information 。

Abaqus Quasi-static induced numerical damping

The Quasi-static method for dynamic problem in Abaqus should be carefully used, because it will automatically induce the numerical damping in your calculation.

This method is very conservative, approximately it will introduce 5% numerical damping (damping ratio).

This method is helpful for contact problem and for convergency. But be careful when using it.
