Greeting

Submitted by AminBakhtiari on

Greetings my dear friends!

I'm Amin and its my first post!I'm studying mechanical Engineering in Semnan University in Iran and by the time  I'm workin' on entropy generation calculation for laminar and terbulent
fully developed forced flow and heat transfer of nanofluids inside
annul.I'd be really glad if anyone could give me hand with it .

Justification for use of Riks method to investigate gross plastic deformation

Submitted by ranababu on

Hi, my question is on the use of Riks and other Arc length methods when analysing  a system for gross plastic deformation. ASME B&PV code , in its investigation for Gross plastic deformation as a Load at which convergence does not take place. Now, as far as I understand, Newton Raphson method fails at locations of singularity in the stiffness matrix and also at Bifurcation points, it can trace the unstable primary paths. Both these issues can be overcome ( provided the limit point is not too sharp) by Riks and other Arc length methods.

Patran/PCL parametrization

Submitted by quickstart on

Dear imechanica users,

I have decided to learn how to use .ses and .pcl files in Patran to simplify repeatable operations.

In my problem, I would like to consider several beams of the same length, loading/BC conditions etc. but with different cross-section dimensions.

In order to make my calculations fully automatic, I have parametrized both width and height of the cross sections (as REAL a,b) and created nested FOR loops to obtain 20 different designs.

I would be grateful for answers on these questions:

Have someone met a strange behavior of Load-Displacement curve in a simple 2D indentation problem

Submitted by minhtran.1986.vn on

I am modelling a very simple 2D contact problem between a rigid wedge indenter and a deformable squared-shape specimen (general steel material) in frictionless contact case. I used an implicit function f to describe the rigid indenter.

I implemented Lagrange multiplier method for this contact problem and the contact condition is: Inside the contact zone of the deformable specimen, the node set is active if f(node)<=0 and the Lagrange multiplier lambda<=0.

AFM-nanoindentation, scanning acoustic microscopy, micro-Raman spectroscopy,
and FTIR spectroscopy and possibly assist in numerical analyses from these

How to model Carbon nano-tubes in ABAQUS

Submitted by p.haghdoust on

Dear Colleagues

I want to start some research on the Carbon nano - tubes.

In the begining I need to model a CNT in the ABAQUS.

I wrote a code for generating the xyz Coordinates of the atoms in a CNT.

The problem is that I can not import them in abaqus.

Does anyone has an Idea ?

Thanks in advance

Distinguished Researcher to Speak at NJIT on Preventing Bone Loss

Submitted by TanjaLeijs on

Biomedical researcher Stephen C. Cowin will describe a promising model for studying nutrient transport from the vascular system to bone tissue

Preventing bone deterioration is a critical aspect of combating osteoporosis, improving bone implants, and even making long-term space flight possible, such as voyages to Mars and beyond. On April 9, noted biomedical researcher Stephen C. Cowin will describe a promising model for studying nutrient transport from the vascular system to bone tissue, transport that has a direct bearing on the prevention of bone loss.
