Opening for a new Ph.D. student in the Computational Mechanics group, The University of Iowa.

Submitted by leeshams on

The Computational Mechanics group at The University of Iowa, led by Professor S. Rahman, is looking for a new Ph.D. student, who is capable of and interested in performing high-quality research on uncertainty quantification for dynamical or time-varying systems. The research, supported by the Department of Energy, requires building a solid mathematical foundation, devising efficient numerical algorithms, and developing practical computational tools, all associated with the stochastic analysis of complex materials and structures.

Critical pressure of delamination of a film and a vessel

Submitted by ibiomechanic on

Following the approach of Griffith, Sneddon and Muskhelishvili calculated the pressure of tear propagation in elastic media. Gent and Lewandowski collected these works and using Hencky's approximation of membrane deformation, introduced a collection of relationships on the debonding of films from substrates by pressure (left panel).

A PhD position at University and Unity of mechanic (EA 7512) of Lille

Submitted by Fanfan WANG on

Here I help Professor Pruchnicki post a phd thesis proposal. It will begin on September 2022 for three years (shared between Politechnico of Turino and University of Lille). The net salary will be approximately 1500 euros per month. He wants a very good student so he wants to be sure of the candidate's level. Professor Pruchnicki will give an international work on plate and will ask him/her for seeing his/her understanding. Please refer to the attachment for the details.

Two PhD positions in Aalto University

Submitted by Arttu Polojärvi on

Ice Mechanics Group at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Aalto University is looking for two motivated doctoral students to work on numerical modeling and experiments on sea ice interacting with offshore wind farm. Novel numerical models for sea ice behavior and failure form a central part of the research by our group. Also we have a world unique experimental facility, Aalto Ice and Wave Tank.

Ph.D. Position at The University of Arizona

Submitted by Kavan Hazeli on

A Ph.D. position is available in the Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Arizona. The focus of the project is to investigate deformation and damage initiation mechanisms of additively manufactured lattice structures using a combination of computational mechanics (peridynamics), experimental mechanics, and microscopic analysis.
