Need some info about Mechanics and Control of Chatter Vibrations

Submitted by A.Vijay Alagappan on

Can anyone cite some resources for chatter vibrations...the google search results dont throw up good results...I need some thing that will explain the basics - mechanics, causes, measuring and control of chatter in machine tools!

Modelling a composite wall in ANSYS

Submitted by samiuofu on

Hi,

I am doing a Non-linear Buckling Analysis of a composite wall

I am having hard time modelling the composite wall

The composite wall consists of polystyrene foam as the core element and stucco is applied on either side of the wall.

There is a thin sheet of mesh embedded in the stucco ( please see the attachment for clear visualization).

Boundary Conditions:Uniform compressive load is applied at the top surface and the bottom surface is fixed

what to calculate: Critical Buckling Load, Critical Buckling Stress

iMechanica has over 16,000 registered users

Submitted by Zhigang Suo on

The number of registered users of iMechanica passed 16,000 early today.  The the number of posts passed 6,900, and that of comments, 12,500.

iMechanica was founded in September, 2006, with the mission:

  1. to use the Internet to enhance communication among mechanicians
  2. to pave a way to evolve online all knowledge of mechanics

I quote what I wrote when the number of registered user passed 1000 in early 2007:

Open Ph.D. position in the area of microbial inactivation mechanics

Submitted by cuitino on

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Rutgers University has an open position for a highly-motivated individual in the area of solid and bio mechanics starting January 2010. The scope of the Ph.D. dissertation will be focused on advancing the understanding of the role of mechanical drivers on the mechanisms responsible for bacterial inactivation. This dissertation, supported by the USDA, will be guided by Prof. Alberto Cuitino in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team in microbiology and food science.
