Submitted by Managers on

I am writing to draw your attention to our annual solicitation for applications to Rowland Junior Fellows Program, which may be of interest to your graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.

We have currently eight Rowland Junior Fellows at the Institute. As a look at our website will tell you (http://rowland.harvard.edu), they work on a broad range of topics, from condensed matter physics to plant physiology.

Openings for New Ph.D. Students on Composite Materials and Failure Mechanics at Vanderbilt University, USA

Submitted by L. Roy Xu on

New students may start from January 2008 if the graduate students have previous research experience in solid mechanics (e.g., nano/micro-mechanics, computational mechanics) or material engineering (MD simulation, mechanical behaviors). Students will have the opportunities to conduct balanced experimental and computational work on the durabilty and impact failure of marine composite materials; failure and material designs of nanocomposite materials; or rehabilitation of infrastructure materials using composites and other materials.  An MS degree is required.

When is the right time for a Post Doc. to start applying for a lecturership position?

Submitted by Amir Siddiq on

I normally come across many advertisements about lecturership positions in different universities all around the world. And I always wonder when is the right time for a post doc. to apply for it? As, I am never sure that my experience will be enough for the position.

What are the necessary ingredients of a post doc.'s CV, that should help him getting such position?

Covariance in Linearized Elasticity

Submitted by arash_yavari on

In this paper we covariantly obtain the governing equations of linearized elasticity. Our motivation is to see if one can make a connection between (global) balance of energy in nonlinear elasticity and its counterpart in linear elasticity. We start by proving a Green-Naghdi-Rivilin theorem for linearized elasticity. We do this by first linearizing energy balance about a given reference motion and then by postulating its invariance under isometries of the Euclidean ambient space.

AFM modelling

Submitted by ravi5kumar on

Hi, every body...

Can anyone please tell me about the kind of modelling that is done to study the Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) ?

I have gone through the lumped mass models, but I want to know about the distributed models ?

Is anyone having some papers or links related to distributed modelling of AFM ?

Thank You......
