ICFRM is the major international conference for exchanging and archiving knowledge on the development of materials for both near and long-term fusion energy systems. It assembles the world community to present their results on research, development, and deployment of materials for fusion devices. The scope of the conference ranges from fundamental materials science to in-service materials performance, and is delivered in a mix of invited and contributed oral and poster presentations.
Abstracts are due April 27, 2007 for the Second International Conference on Mechanics of Biomaterials and Tissues, to take place on the Hawai’ian island of Kaua’i. Full call for papers is at the conference website. The conference is hosted by Elsevier and the launch of a new Elsevier journal on biomechanics will coincide with the timing of the meeting. Mechanics has been playing a critical role in understanding the fabrication and reliability of nanostructured material systems, such as the self-assembly of quantum dots during heteroepitaxial thin film growth. Sponsored by the Elasticity Committee of Applied Mechanics Division, this symposium will identify opportunities and challenges in mechanics of materials that are motivated from a variety of novel and emerging nanofabrication and nanostructure growth methods. Track 18-7 Nanoscale, Biological, Cellular and Nonlinear Materials
The mechanical, thermal, electrical, and chemical behaviors of nanostructured materials such as nanocrystalline materials, nanowires, nanofilms, and nanotubes have been increasingly studied with advanced simulation techniques such as the molecular dynamics (MD) method and its various variants including the Car-Parrinello method, Monte Carlo method, the tight-binding MD method, and first principle methods. However, quite often the analyses neglect the correlations among the different types of behaviors of the materials. Characterization of such correlations necessitates multiphysics approaches in modeling, simulation, and experiments. Examples include fatigue of nanocrystalline materials in corrosive environments, piezoelectric behavior of nanowires, and thermal-mechanical coupling of the behavior of nanobelts. With advances in the development of nanomaterials, there is a strong need to quantify material behavior accounting for multiphysics processes in a coupled manner. This symposium is intended to bring together researchers in multiphysics modeling, simulation and experiments of nanomaterials and nanostructured materials. The focus is primarily on a survey of the state of the art in molecular level multiphysics modeling, simulation, and experiments. Responding to the wishes of members, the ASME Congress will change to a new format, starting this year. Sessions will not be allocated to Divisions, but will be allocated to symposiums after abstracts are reviewed. Thus, your action item is to submit an abstract to a symposium. Here are terms as used in the 2007 Congress:
Session. Technical sessions will be scheduled for four days, Monday-Thursday. Each session will last 90 minutes, and consists of 4-6 talks. There will be 23 parallell sessions at a given time, 5 time slots for sessions per day, and a total of 23x5x4 = 460 sessions for the entire congress.
