ABAQUS user MPC script

Hey,

I was working with the user defined MPC constraint in ABAQUS. I am using a script file to apply the constraints. I encounter a problem. I want to use more than two points and give a derivative for eacht of these points (derivative is A). Now I can only add a controlpoint and a set of points as a surface, but all these point in the surface will have the same A value.

With an input file you can just put the points after each other seperated with a , .

My problem is hard to explain. I hope someone can help me

Disparity in Simple Shear solution in ABAQUS

Dear All,

We tried to simulate simple shear using ABAQUS and compared it with the analytical solution. To our surprise, even though the equivalent stress and strain matched perfectly, the component stress and strain had a large deviation between the semi analytical and ABAQUS methods. The zero components in the analytical model were calculated to be non-zero in the results of ABAQUS. This paradox could not be understood clearly as whether it is a case of software deficiency or conceptual error. A COMPLETE ANALYSIS OF THE PROBLEM IS ATTACHED AS A REPORT.

FE code for computing steel section properties

Submitted by kajalschopra on

Hi All, I need to write a FE code for my mid term project to get the cross section proeprties of a steel section (it could be I shaped, C / channel shaped, paired channel sections, paired I sections).I know the tough part here is the computation of warping function.Could anyone help me with some references / spproach on this-I'll be extremely grateful. The proeprties include: 1 Geeometric proeprties

NR Iterations

Submitted by shrimad on

Hi,

For a transient time based problem, how do we know when to solve an FE problem using Newtow-Raphson iterations?

For example in a thermo-viscoelastic problem where there is only temperature change with time, and no external forces - would it require NR iterations to obtain solution or a time marching solution is enough?

Thanks,

Material Properties at Nodes

Submitted by shrimad on

Hi,

I am developing a code for a weakly coupled thermal-structual analysis. I perform a transient thermal analysis which gives me the temperature distribution over time, and I calculate the structural deformation based on the temperature change.

Some of the structural material property is dependent on temperature. Since in transient thermal analysis, every node can have different temperatures, how can I handle the assigning of material properties according to the temperature?

Simple Open Source Solver

I found the below thread, and thought this would be a good place to ask about open source FEM.

forum/357

But unlike that thread, I want something that is very simple, that can be run with just a single .exe.  I only need to solve basic structural problems and perhaps eigenvalue problems.  Orthotropic material capability is needed, but input for a composite material via lamina and stacking sequence would be better.

Constructing the extension velocity or updating the signed distance of a level set

Dear all,
I had been looking forward to use level sets to keep track of the surface in a simulation, but one thing has me stumped. Since many here work with XFEM, I was hoping someone might have some valuable input.

I want to simulate flows driven by a surface tension. This will typically yield holes, which will close rapidly. At the point at which the hole disappears, the signed distance function will have a discontinuity.
I would expect this to happen in pretty much any fluid simulation, but I can't see any way to handle it.

Hello

I do my thesis on bearing capacity of foundations near slopes, I use mohr coulomb plasticity with el asticity

but I cant understand what should I do and why my result is dependent on the mesh size and why when I refine elements near

foundation the bearing capacity of the foundation becomes smaller please help me how can I do this thesis

How to apply pressure on perticular side of the shell element

Submitted by Dhanashri Joglekar on

If a pressure is to be applied on one of the sides of the shell element (not on the mid surface) in ansys, how to do it? And if the pressure ie acting on both the sides of the geometry, then how to take care of it when shell element is being used?
