Varying material properties spatially in ABAQUS

Submitted by Vaibhav Yadav on

Hi,

In an ABAQUS 2D-planar model, is it possible to vary the material properties spatially, say defining modulus (E) as a function of coordinates, E = f(x,y)? One way is to use *DISTRIBUTION feature, but that allows variation based on element-sets and does not allow varying the material properties as function of coordinates. If anyone has solved this or similar problem kindly suggest.

Thank you

Numerical singularity in Abaqus

Submitted by ravitejk4u on

Hi All,

many a times in abaqus, we get numerical singularity warnings. which are mainly due to rigid body motion in one or more directions. This will generally happen when there is contact closing and opening phenomenon is happening.  How can we resolve these numerical singularities? Please post if you have any additional information.

 Thanks and Regards

Abaqus, UMAT, Constitutive law, Powder

Submitted by leo20002000 on

Dear all,

I have several questions about how to use existing constitutive law of material to code UMAT in Abaqus. I have carried out experiment for several powder materials, including metal, ceramic, polymer powders. The powder aggregate is compacted in a cylindrical die. After the compaction, relationships between axial stress and axial strain, radial stress and axial strain are obtained. The material under such condition is always treated as elastic plastic material.

Disparity in Simple Shear solution in ABAQUS

Dear All,

We tried to simulate simple shear using ABAQUS and compared it with the analytical solution. To our surprise, even though the equivalent stress and strain matched perfectly, the component stress and strain had a large deviation between the semi analytical and ABAQUS methods. The zero components in the analytical model were calculated to be non-zero in the results of ABAQUS. This paradox could not be understood clearly as whether it is a case of software deficiency or conceptual error. A COMPLETE ANALYSIS OF THE PROBLEM IS ATTACHED AS A REPORT.

Rerun input file with ABAQUS software from a certain time

Dear,

There was a time i run my input file of 3D model with ABAQUS. It was supposed to take more than one day in order to complete analysis. But unfortunately my computer was turned off, then i had to rerun input file from beginning even running process was completed almost 85%. Is there anyone knows the way to rerun input file from the time it was ruptured?

periodic boundary conditions in ABAQUS 6.9-1

Submitted by perzo on

Hi

I have a problem with applying periodic boundary condition. I have used *EQUATION in constraints for opposite nodes and surfaces. But I still have some problem with that for sure I making some simple mistake. If anyone could look at my model and find problem. Abaqus version 6.9-1 .

Thanks a lot.

Slope of Contact force Vs time curve too steep.

Submitted by priyadd84 on

Dear all,

I did a 3 pt bending impact simulation with an elasto plastic model. But the slope of contact force vs time curve is too steep at the beginning of the impact. One trivial way of reducing the slope is by reducing the young's modulus of elements in the vicinity of contact or the impactor. Also reducing the mass of the impactor and the impact velocity did not help in reducing the slope.

Is there any other non-trivial parameters that controls the slope of contact force vs time plot? Thanks ina dvance.
