Call for Papers: Experimental Mechanics Special Issue on “Mechanics of Energy Materials”

Submitted by Shuman_Xia on

Advanced energy materials hold one of the keys to fundamental advances in the conversion, storage, and harvesting of energy for a broad range of consumer electronics, automotive, aerospace, and defense applications. The successful development and deployment of these materials relies critically on a fundamental understanding of strongly coupled multiphysics phenomena. Mechanics of energy materials has emerged as a rapidly growing area of research that has significant technological implications in improving the efficiency, reliability, and sustainability of energy infrastructure.

Postdoc Position in Experimental Nanomechanics

Submitted by Yong Zhu on

A postdoctoral fellow position is available in Dr. Yong Zhu’s lab in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at North Carolina State University. The project involves mechanics, multiphysics and interface mechanics of two-dimensioanl (2D) nanomaterials. The successful candidate will have the opportunities to collaborate with researchers in the areas ranging from nanomaterial synthesis to atomistic simulation.

Requirements:
1. A Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Physics or other related areas is required.

3-year post doctoral position in dynamic testing of materials - University of Southampton

Submitted by Fabrice Pierron on

As part of my EPSRC Fellowship programme, I am now recruiting the second post-doctoral fellow associated with the project. I am looking for a talented young researcher with skills in experimental mechanics, particularly in the field of high rate testing of materials and high speed imaging for full-field deformation measurements. Informal enquiries can be made directly to me at f.pierron [at] soton.ac.uk, attaching a CV.

Optical microscope for three-dimensional surface displacement and shape measurements at the microscale

Submitted by Shuman_Xia on

We report a novel optical microscope for full-field, noncontact measurements of three-dimensional (3D) surface deformation and topography at the microscale. The microscope system is based on a seamless integration of the diffraction-assisted image correlation (DAIC) method with fluorescent microscopy. We experimentally demonstrate the microscope’s capability for 3D measurements with submicrometer spatial resolution and subpixel measurement accuracy.
