A few days ago, Xi Chen uploaded two pictures of Raymond D. Mindlin in one post. I was expecting to see the pictures (at least one of them) showing up at the left column as random image. However, it has yet to happen. So I am asking: how do we add images into the list of random images?

In iMechanica, every item (a post or a comment) has a unique URL. Click the title of a post or a comment, the URL will be displayed in the navigation bar in your browser.

For people using PC and Firefox, sending an email of a post or a comment becomes very simple. Point the cursor to the title of the item, and then make the following 3 clicks:

  1. Right click the mouse. A small window will pop up.

Writers write, readers read. But the world is not that simple: it has e-walls between writers and readers. We have all helped to build the walls, so we should not complain. One day we might come to our senses to tear down these walls. Before that happens, we'll just have to cope.

Question and suggestion about RSS of iMechanica

I subscribed to the RSS of iMechanica and somebody’s blog in my RSS reader--netvibes. But it feed me a little. Today’s hot topic is Huang’s “from students’ perspective”, and lots of comments follow and will continue to follow tomorrow or the days after tomorrow. When I check my netvibes, it only tells me new topics, but not new comments. But actually, sometimes we want to track the update of several specific topics instead of browsing every topic. Moreover, someone posts new comments on some topics, but I cannot obtain the feed of comments from him/her. So if iMechanica can supply feed for the topics and for all of the updated posts of users, it will be very useful. It improves the efficiency and it is the gist of RSS.

Why should I comment on other people's posts?

Each post in iMechanica is followed by a section called "Post your comments". This is a place where the readers of a post can raise a question, make an argument, or just share individual thoughts on the subject of this post. This is also a place where the author of a post can respond to the readers' comments by answering questions, or elaborating the original post. This way, mechanicians can interact with each other. More often, any thought-provoking comments may stir up a second round (or even more rounds) of discussion.

The post will appear in your blog. It will also appear when people click any of the tags that you have assigned to the post. iMech indexes its content about once every hour. Once indexed, your post is searchable. The post will also appear in front of people who have subscribed to the RSS feeds of iMech.

Your post has a unique URL (so-called permalink), which appears in the navigation bar when you click the title of your post. Such a permalink can be used by all authors in the Internet to hyperlink to your post. So, each post is like an atom, capable of chemical reaction with other posts. Make each of your post focused. This is particularly important if you have more than one good ideas.

First, please check the size and dimension of your photo before you upload. The maximum size is 30kb and the maximum dimension is 85x85 pixel. Usually, your photo is much larger than this requirement.

Second, use some software to resize your photo to the required dimension, e.g. ACDsee. Then you can upload your phote in your acount and your photo will appear in every entry you put in iMechanica.

Welcome to iMechanica and see you there.
