The physical meaning or the numerical effect of the parameter, r, in the exponential cohesive zone model

Submitted by yanyabin on

Dear All:

Here I have a question about the physical meaning or the numerical effect of the parameter, r, in the exponential cohesive zone model. In the original papers by Xu and Needleman, the parameter, r, was defined as "r=Δ*/δn, where the Δ* is the value of the normal displacement jump after the complete tangential separation occurs under the condition of nomal traction being zero, and δn is the normal interface characteristic length parameter".

Merge parts with features Abaqus CAE

Submitted by JonAdams on

Is there a way to include Feature (eg wires) in a part merger in the Abaqus CAE assembly module.

I am trying to model a repetitive space space grid and would like to define pin connections between beams in a part which can then be arrayed, leaving only connections between arrayed parts to be defined.

Marine Current Turbine

Submitted by Joao Machado on

Hi,

I'm doing some investigation on a marine current turbine, for a project using the Lifting Line Theory.

I found out some problems regarding some assumptions one has to make when projecting a turbine, such as cavitation number, tip speed ratio, Reynolds number, etc...

Any information of any bibliography you might have might became handy, so I appreciate if you share it.

Thank You!

Joao

Hi,

In have modelled a beam with a hole using LEFM and FEM, assuming a crack length, I was able to indicate the failure load of the beam with a hole. Now, I would like to find a diameter of the hole which I can claim that in this diameter, there is no effect of the hole on the total strength of the beam. Would you please give me an idea of what to do? Is there any thing that I can do withmy model to find out about this? Is there a lower band in LEFM to limit its using?

Thank you,

cracks interaction in XFEM by ABAQUS

Submitted by r.k on

Hey All.

I' m M.S of petroleum engineering.

i want to simulate the cracks interactions(a propagating crack and a pre-existing crack).

But the XFEM in ABAQUS has some limitations that doesn't let me do such simulation!

I'd like to know if anyone knows any kind of subroutines(i.e cracks interactions or crack propagation related subroutines) for this kind of simulation.

Besides, that would be my pleasure to know any suggestion, idea or guidlines for my problem.

Regards.

Hi......

I have a accelaration vs time data for an earthquake. But I need velocity vs time data for an earthquake for dynamic analysis of a structure with this earthquake as input. The intrgration of accelaration is velocity. How I can integrate this numerical data? I have an idean about Newmarks beta method but how to use it? I have no idea. Is there any further simple method to do this? Is there any reference book or journal or link available for this?

Thanks in advance......
