Hi I am seeking career advice. I am 31 and looking forward to working professionally on FEM and computational mechanics. When I finished my Meng Mechanical Engineering back in 2005 I worked at an institute (unpaid) and programmed some codes on discrete element method but shortly found a job in a oil engineering company in their stress analysis department. Unfortunately I was never placed in that department because the company had other needs (I was placed in the Material Department as a senior Material engineer)

poisson ratio for membrane

Hi all,

 There are two poisson ratios for membrane element in Abaqus.  One is for the material and the other one is "effective section poisson ratio", which can be set to zero to fix the thickness of the membrane.  Does anyone know how these two Poisson ratios work in the constitutive equation of a membrane?

Hi,

Could please any one knows give me an idea about solving a problem which I face for the ages.

I have modelled a beam with a sharp edge at the corner of a rectangular hole with ABAQUS. I have introduced different crack length and using LEFM, I have made some predictions for the failure load of the beam. Now the predicted load is dependent on the crack length. How can I chooose the right crack length?

incorporation of cracks in ansys

Dear all,

I am using ANSYS 12 for analysing nonlinear dynamic  behaviour of concrete gravity dam.

Due to chemical components in water, in the long run, the dam has developed strucutral cracks. So I need to incorporate these cracks (may be 5 % or 10 % of total contact surface upto a certain depth into the body and of certain length) and do the analysis and find the difference in mode shapes, stresses etc.

I am new to Ansys usage, so please help me how to accompolish my work.
