Hello,

I am using python script to automate a repeatative task. During this I am faceing problem. Please help.

I have created a sketch by

 mysketch= mdb.Model(name='Cantilever') .ConstrainedSketch(name='beam', sheetSize=200.0)

 mysketch.rectangle(point1=(0,0), point2=(100,10))

I want to take underlined numbers as an input from user for that i have defined variavles as l and w of cantilever. When I use this

 mysketch.rectangle(point1=(0,0), point2=(l,w))

abaqus gives error during compilation.

ABAQUS and Soil Nailing Wall

Hi there,

I have a question regarding ABAQUS and soil nailing wall. In face I want to know what interaction or constraint  can use to connect nail (truss element) and soil (shell element ) to work fine ? I tried tie but the problem is that when soil settled under loads it polls the wall inside and obviously it is wrong.

Thank you

ansys tutorial

hi

how are you?

am doing some analysis with ansys to find out the stresses.and i want to plot the von-mises stresses in a diagram.

and want to know that how ansys can plot a graph or diagram for the stress results.

for example a diagram for "depth vs von-mises stress"

can anyone help me to fix this problem please?

best regards

Hi All,

I am doing a problem on mechanics and find that the answers are not matching (mine are coming .0085 and .002 inch).I am attaching the question and the answer herewith.

I presume that bending effect is not to be taken into consideration as otherwise the dimensions of the beam would have been furnished.I tried both direct stiffness and virtual work methods and didn't get the required answer.

Can anybody validate the same.I restrain myself using FEA analysis fo it as it would have taken thet bending effect also.

Thanks and Best Regards

interaction for a beam element embedded in a 3D solid block

Hi everyone,

I am trying to model a beam element (which is supposed to work as a pile) embedded into a 3D block solid of soil.

the beam element (pile) is supposed to have 2 interfacial interactions; 1) tangential and normal contact at the end of beam element , 2) tangential and normal contact on the beam circumference.

could anyone explain how to define this type of interaction?

I really appreciate that.

mesh generation

Submitted by kajalschopra on

Hello All,

I'm collecting some information of the mesh generation techniques/ types of algorithm used in various softwares concerned with strictural engineering for meshing a 2-D domain.

Please can anyone provide some insight on mesh generation techniques used in softwares-I'm more into structural Engineering and not in automatice or mechanical engineering field and the info i require is for meshing of 2D domains like a wall or a floor slab of a building.

Thank you

Hi, i need help modeling sandwich structure in ANSYS 12.1, i have found some materials online on how to do it? I have tried the basic steps. got some results, but now how do i validate that.   I have experimental data for three point bending. But i want to make sure that what i am doing in ANSYS APDL is darn right.

inputs are,

3 layers 45/0/45

thickness 0.1/0.365748/0.1   (inch)

material i am using right now are carbon fiber and foam DH100

properties of each layer have been assumed to be isotropic
