Scott Rosenbaugh's background story

Submitted by Scott Rosenbaugh on

Point by point, here's the goods:

  • I am currently enrolled at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
  • Prior mechanics courses include: Mechanics of Materials, Advanced Mechanics of Materials, and I'm currently taking Mechanics of Composite Materials
  • I received my Undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Nebraska Lincoln.
  • My strengths for this class... there are three of us in my office taking this class.  If I ever get stuck on something, one of them is bound to know what's up.  Three heads are better than one I hear.  My weakness for this class would be that baseball season is starting soon.  I might get a little distracted.  Seriously, I'm getting cabin fever.
  • I'm currently working with the Midwest Roadside Safety Facility (MwRSF).  We crash cars.  Into barriers.  At 60 mph.  Its fun.  Feel free to check out the website @ mwrsf.unl.edu
  • I have been working on developing a new concrete median barrier for semi-trailer impacts.  I've also been working on developing a precast, bolt-down, bridge rail.
  • Fracture mechanics will definately help my understanding of how the metal structures on the roadsie break away as a vehicle impacts them.  There are a lot of devices such as sign posts, and luminares that are disinged to do so safely.
  • I feel that fracture mechanics are an impotant area to study.  Materials is the real world are rarely perfect, and understanding how they react and how craks propagate seems pretty important.
