Ansys- Composite materials

Submitted by Manohar Reddy Y P on

Hi all,

Iam presently using Ansys Composite Prepost (ACP) for composite material modelling. I looked at some tutorials and understood the procedure, but when I applied it to simple case of simply supported rectangular plate with uniform load, the results donot match the theoritical textbook results. I tried it in ANSYS Mechanical APDL, the results were exactly same with  theoritical value. Iam unable to find the mistake. Is it possible to get the validation results for ACP similar to the validation results which are available for ANSYS APDL(provided by ANSYS ).

thanks

May be you have different middle plane in ACP. ACP can be used to create solid model of layered composite structure, and can define stacking direction. In case of shell model, you need to make sure the middle plane is correct, otherwise your symmetric sheet of composite (symmetric stacking) wont act like it is symmetric because the force is not located in middle plane. I think this problem is not clear in tutorial. I tried acp and use simple plate to validate its result. the stiffness matrix (ABD matrix) and stress match with my hand calculation (based on my textbook).
