I am working on a punch process model in abaqus. I am using a shear failure criterion with johnson-cook plasticity. When I run the simulation the elements in the blank are not separating from the rest
of the blank. I have element deletion turned on but the elements appear just to stretch without
separating. Any ideas on what is going wrong?

Hello,
You can add the variable called "STATUS" in the field output list. It allows visualizing the shear damage in the Abaqus/viewer.

Thanks, I see that. I beleive I solved my problem by adjusting the material properties of the blank. I also added a point mass to the punch with is a rigid analytical body.
How?
Hi dmashack
can you tell how do you solve your problem?
I have the same problem now.
Simulation of residual stress relaxation of 2024-T351 AA
the fatigue life of material can be improve by induce residual stress. shot peening can improved the fatigue life of aluminium alloy by more than 50%. however the initial induced residual stress will not be stable during the operating like it will relax. this relaxation reduces the improvement %. the goal my question is how to model this relaxation using Abaqus Software. may i know how to introduce cyclic load and hence the application of relaxation.
