The Noise Control and Acoustics Division (NCAD) is sponsoring the 2017 Symposium on Phononic Crystals and Metamaterials. This symposium, which will be in its 13th year, will feature presentations covering all aspects of phononic crystals and acoustic/elastic/phononic metamaterials.

Post-Doc Position Available in Fracture Mechanics
This is a 9 months post-doc position on modelling crack problems at Portsmouth University (UK).
The project will focus on using Abaqus to model the full field near-tip strains. Corresponding experimental data has been collected for model validation using Digital Image Correlation. Politecnico di Milano creates a large debate in Italy with its decision to teach only in English
Recently, Politecnico di Milano in Italy has attempted to force all teaching at Master level in English. This has been stopped by some academics who went to different levels of administrative courts, and recently there was a prononciation of the Supreme Court. The matter is not settled yet, but you can find an account of this with various links here.

Ph.D. Candidate Position in fatigue and fracture of structures at University of Connecticut
One Ph.D. candidtate position is available in Dr. Wei Zhang's research group at Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in the University of Connecticut.
The candidate will continue our current research efforts on short fatigue crack growth.
Students with strong backgrounds in solid mechanics, finite element modeling, crystal plasticity, fatigue and fracture of materials and structures are encouraged to apply.
