On the Potential of Lattice Type Model for Predicting Shear Capacity of Reinforced Concrete and SHCC Structures

Submitted by shavijabranko on

Discrete approaches can be used in various areas of engineering and science.

Our group at TU Delft has recently published a paper on simulating shear failure in reinforced concrete using discrete (lattice) models. The paper can be found at: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/317617956_On_the_Potential_of_…;

Women in Engineering

Women in Engineering: solving real-life problems today for a better tomorrow
Five women engineers based at the Biotribology lab at Imperial Colleage London tell us about their work, their aspirations for the future, and the advice for other women caonsidering careers in engineering.
They tell us about their work to understand and recreate human cartilage to reduce the need for animal testing, to improve the longevity of hip and knee replacements, and techniques that could help to treat aggressive brain cancers.
We hope you find their stories as inspiring as we do.

Doctoral research positions within the International Research Training Group "Integrated Engineering of continuous-discontinuous long fiber reinforced polymer structures” (DFG GRK 2078)

Submitted by Thomas Böhlke on

The international research training group "Integrated Engineering of continuous-discontinuous long fiber reinforced polymer structures” offers several doctoral research positions at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) starting in April 2018. Discontinuous long fiber reinforced polymer structures with local continuous fiber reinforcements represent an important class of lightweight materials.

Assistant research scientist in the PRISMS center at the University of Michigan

Submitted by Srihari Sundar on

The Predictive Integrated Structural Materials Science (PRISMS) Center at University of Michigan is seeking a computational materials scientist to participate in the development of production-standard open source scientific codes. The Center is home to a number of closely-knit research groups that specialize in computational materials science spanning the spatial scales from electronic structure to the continuum, and a spectrum of theories including Density Functional Theory, Statistical Mechanics, Phase Field Models, Crystal Plasticity and Continuum Mechanics.

TAMU- Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor

Submitted by TAMU Materials… on

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Texas A&M University invites applications for a tenured or tenure-track faculty position in the area of mechanical behavior of advanced structural materials.  Although candidates at the assistant professor level are preferred, exceptionally well qualified candidates will be considered for appointment at the rank of associate or full professor.

Ph.D. Student Positions in Computational Materials Science and Mechanics

Submitted by AnterEl-Azab on

Several Ph.D. student positions are available in Professor El-Azab’s group with the School of Materials Engineering, Purdue University. The group performs advanced theoretical and computational research in the areas of mesoscale plasticity and dislocation dynamics, radiation effects in materials, microstructure evolution, phase field method development, and computational methods for materials science and mechanics. Applicants with MS in mechanical, aerospace, or materials engineering, with background in microstructure science, continuum mechanics and elasticity, numerical methods or computational techniques such as finite element method are highly preferred. Knowledge of at least one advanced programming language such as Fortran or C++ is required. Exceptional applicants with BS degree will also be considered. The openings are for spring 2018, summer 2018 and fall 2018. Applicants must meet Purdue University and School of Materials Engineering admission criteria. For inquiry please send email to Professor El-Azab (aelazab [at] purdue.edu).
