PhD positions in mechanics of metamaterials at the University of Minnesota

Submitted by stefanogonella on

PhD positions are available at the University of Minnesota in the group of Prof. Stefano Gonella. The positions are in the general area of mechanics and physics of solids and structures, with emphasis on mechanical metamaterials. Topics of current interest are:

1) Topological metamaterials;

2) Nonlinear waves in metamaterials and architected solids;

3) Tunable and programmable metastructures.

Experimentally informed micromechanical modelling of cement paste: An approach coupling X-ray computed tomography and statistical nanoindentation

Submitted by shavijabranko on

Our group has recently published an article wherein we propose the use of X-ray computed tomography coupled with statistical nanoindentation for simulating the mechanical properties of quasi-brittle materials. The approach is used for simulating tensile properties of hardened cement paste.
