The Department of Mechanical Engineering at University of Rochester is searching for a new tenure-track Assistant Professor, to join in July 2022. The research field is materials science theory / computation particularly related to superconductors. Please see the attachement if interested or distribute to your network.

Postdoctoral Research Associate and Graduate Student Openings in Mechanobiology and Biomechanics at UPenn

Submitted by Xingyu Chen on

Several postdoctoral and graduate student openings with primary focus on biomechanics is available immediately in the Shenoy Research Group at the University of Pennsylvania. We are looking for strongly motivated candidates to work on Nation Cancer  supported Cancer Metastasis Network Center. The center will focus on 1) cell-matrix interactions in cancer, 2) nuclear mechano-transduction and 3) cancer cell motility.

Molecular‑level investigation on the spallation of polyurea

Submitted by Nuwan Dewapriya on

Our paper "Molecular‑level investigation on the spallation of polyurea" is freely available from this link: https://rdcu.be/cqkbG

We used molecular dynamics (MD) simulations to investigate the nanoscale mechanism associated with the spallation of polyurea, which allowed us to test some assumptions commonly made in the interpretation of similar experiments on the macroscale.

Two PhD Positions on Composites (Onshore/Australian domestic students only)

Submitted by Zia Javanbakht on

Two PhD Positions on Composite Materials (Onshore/Australian domestic students only).

We are currently looking to recruit two PhD candidates to work on the development of manufacturing processes and technologies for lightweight fibre-reinforced composite materials with complex geometry. Project activities include design, manufacture and testing (including non-destructive testing, NDT) of carbon fibre-reinforced composites. NDT approaches may also expand into sensor technologies for structural health monitoring of advanced composite structures.

Reminder (Deadline Oct 15th, 2021) Call for Nominations for the Eshelby Mechanics Award for Young Faculty

Submitted by Pradeep Sharma on

It is my pleasure to solicit nominations for the "Eshelby Mechanics Award for Young Faculty". This award, launched in 2012, is given annually to rapidly emerging junior faculty who exemplify the creative use and development of mechanics. The intent of the award is to promote the field of mechanics, especially among young researchers. While interdisciplinary work that bridges mechanics with physics, chemistry, biology and other disciplines is encouraged, the ideal awardee will demonstrate clear inspiration from mechanics in his/her research.

How can solid ice be tested in laboratory environment (mechanical testing)?

Submitted by Deniz Yalcin on

Below is a blog post based on equipment that we have built for testing solid ice samples. We designed an ADMET biaxial testing system (eXpert 8600 series) in collaboration with the Rock and Ice Deformation Laboratory (RIDL) at Woods Hole Oceanograhic Institution (WHOI).
