I would like to model a microstructure using Abaqus. My question is how to deal with the grain boundaries ? Should I use cohesive elements ? Any ideas on modeling grain boundaries using FEM will be very helpfull.

I am phd student and working on aluminium alloy 2214. i wanted to know if anyone here has experience of FE modelling of inclusions present in alloys by Ansys? i have characterized my material n i know inclusion distribution n size. can anyone help me in this regard?

i m doing a project on vibrational analysis of ball bearing. i have made model in ansys workbench design modeler. now i want to do the analysis in ansys multiphysics. so i opened the model in simulation window of ansys workbench and meshed the model. then i clicked on the solution tab in environment and then written the ansys input file. i have not applied the forces and boundary conditions in workbench because the force is point load . i want to apply that in ansys multiphysics.

As a part of the 16th US National Congress of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics conference (from June 27 to July 2, 2010 at Penn State University), we are organizing a symposium on the multi-physics, or the coupling among physical domains (thermal, electrical, mechanical, magnetic, optical, chemical to name a few).
In this paper we formulate a geometric theory of thermal stresses.
Given a temperature distribution, we associate a Riemannian
material manifold to the body, with a metric that explicitly
depends on the temperature distribution. A change of temperature
corresponds to a change of the material metric. In this sense, a
temperature change is a concrete example of the so-called
referential evolutions. We also make a concrete connection between
our geometric point of view and the multiplicative decomposition
