How to define Pre-Strain (or Pre-Tension) in ABAQUS?

Submitted by mremami on

Hi,

I want to medel an overhead line conductor in Abaqus. As you know, the suspended cable has a parapolic (or catenary) profile under its weight. There is a pre-tension (or pre-strain in elastic region) on the cable due to its weight.

I found in the help of Abaqus that I can use the "Bolt load" option to define the pre-tension, but it does not work for my model. Because my model doesn't have surface to choose for this type of load (it's a 2D wire part).

Would you please let me know how can I define this pre-tension (or pre-strain) in my model?

What is axis of pure rotation?

The concept of axis of of pure rotation  ( or instantatious center of rotation)  is a bit confusing. The text books in engineering mechanics( Irvin shames , Beer & Johnston etc) tells that the locus of points in a body, which is (are) having zero veloity.   This fits  well in case of a 2D motion. As a limiting case of this we are assuming the center of rotation is at inifinity for a rigid body moving in a straight line

The old rolling semi-wreck

I have quite a task waiting for me with my Chrysler. I got it running a few monts ago and it started working nicely. Only small problem is the brakes never quite worked the way they should have.

Replaced a master cylinder and two breaklines, but kept getting leaks. Now I think it would be the best thing for me if I just went ahead and ripped out everything from the booster and master cylinder through to the discs and brake pads and replace everything.

Now the cash for something like that is the very small little problem I am sitting with...
