Marie Curie IEF & IIF

I am interested in applying for Marie Curie Intra-European Fellowships (IEF) and Marie Curie International Incoming Fellowships (IIF). These are highly prestigious two-year fellowships (with average salary ~£50k/year):

The deadline is 11 August 2011.IEF is for researchers outside the European Union and IIF is for researchers within the European Union. My areas of interest include:

Contact radius of spherical indenter

Looking through books and papers I see an often quoted equation to show that the contact radius (a) of spherical indenter of radius (R) is related to the indentation depth (h):

a= √(R.h)

However, using simple trigonometry of a spherical cap it can be shown that:

a=√(2Rh-h2)

Contact area is very important for use in nanoindentation - however, if it is based on the wrong contact area calculation, then more errors become apparent.

Hi All,

I'm involved in development of AxSTREAM Turbomachinery Coceptual Design Suite.

 

We belives that AxSTREAM has a great potentia not onlly in industry but in education too. We have good cooperation with PSU and a number of other univercities around globe.

Some time ago we started a new series of animated demo with narration, related to latest version AxSTREAM-III.

How to achieve creep crack growth in the ABAQUS

Recently, I have worked on the creep crack growth coupled with CDM. In the references, it says that when the element reached to the critical damage, the E of the element was reduced to 0. However, when I used this method in my UMAT, it can achieved creep crack growth in some elements. As the number of damaged elements increases, the damaged eelments distorted too large,as shown in attachment. Therefore, the calculation is stoped.

Does anyone know how to resolove this problem.

A PhD scholarship is available at DTU Mechanical Engineering, Section for Solid Mechanics, in the field of fatigue and wear in rolling and sliding contacts, with focus on computational stress and damage modelling. The department has well-established research activities in this field. The present scholarship is partly funded by the Danish Centre for Knowledge based Engineering for Improved Reliability of Critical Wind turbine Components (REWIND)  supported by the Danish Agency for Science, Technology and Innovation.
