material modeling on 3D braided fibre reinforced composites when subjected to impact loading

Submitted by konanur on

Hi dear members

I am a student doing my Masters in Automotive Engineering at RWTH Aachen and am interested in Structural mechanics. I have done a basic course on mechanics of composite materials and am decently conversant with mechanics of composite laminae. However I am asked to do this mini project where in I am asked to search for a Material model on LS Dyna which is suitable for simulating the crash loading on a 3D braided carbon FRP.

Thermal Stress Analysis

Choose a channel featured in the header of iMechanica

Hi Everyone,

I am new to Abaqus. I am working on a research topic where in I need to study the transient thermal stresses, strains arised due to heating a body by thermal radiation.  From the user's manual I understood that I need to use "Sequentially coupled thermal-stress analysis" for my model.

ABAQUS running in a PC with a dual core processor

Submitted by Thanasis Zisis on

Dear all,

I have a question regarding ABAQUS running in a dual core processor in a personal computer.

I noticed that if somenone submits ABAQUS directly in DualCore pc then ABAQUS by default will use only 1 of the  processors.

Which is the way of making ABAQUS use both of the processors and use 100% of noth of them? Is there a specific command line?

Phd or Postdoc position on multiscale mechanics in Bochum/Germany

Submitted by Steffen Brinckmann on

Please see the job-announcement attached, for a better format.
PhD or Postdoc position
The Interdisciplinary Centre for Advanced Materials Simulation (ICAMS) is a new research centre at the Ruhr-University Bochum, Germany. At ICAMS an interdisciplinary team of scientists from engineering, materials science, chemistry, physics and mathematics is working on the development and application of a new generation of simulation tools for multi-scale materials modelling.

Material selection for vibration damping

Submitted by pirexengaer on

Hi everyone,

I'm searching some solution to absorb vibration. I'm trying to find materials and their properties to compare between them and chose one to design a vibration damper. Their application will be on the base of an avionics enclosure wich is onboard of a UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle).

Post-Docoral Research Positions in the area of numerical simulations of coupled thermal-hydro-geomechanical processes

Submitted by Vanessa Van Dyk on

The Idaho National Laboratory (INL) Energy Resources Recovery & Management Department invites applications for one, or possibly two, post-doctoral research positions in the area of numerical simulations of coupled thermal-hydro-geomechanical processes in geothermal reservoirs. The position(s) will be available in October 2009 and will be renewable for up to 3 years. An earlier start is possible, depending on project development.
