Lateral torsional buckling of I beams with restraint

Submitted by Vanadium on

I am looking to model buckling of I steel beams with restraint in abaqus. But I do not know how to make rigid connections between the steel members.

Why is the other beam( beam with fixed supports) not stressed? How do i define contact between the two beams.

Inter Opportunity at Apple

Submitted by Jie-Hua Zhao on

I am hiring an Engineering Intern this year. The candidates are expected to be graduate students with solid training in mechanics and programming. The starting date is expected to be this summer, however, it can be also earlier. This opening does not sponsor visa application and the candidates should be currently enrolled in US universities and is expected to return to the same school after the internship.  Please email your resume to jhzhao at apple.com.

Element type for modeling shear banding in 3D

Submitted by hanglin ye on

Dear all,

As I am modeling shear banding phenomena in 3D, I am confused on what element type I should adopt, since there are many versions in literature. In 2D simulation, some author suggests using quadrilaterals consists of 4 cross-triangular elements, while some other use 9 node quadrilaterals. In 3D, some author use 20 noded hexahedral while some other use 8 node hexahedral with 1 integration point.

Export Mass Matrices in Abaqus

Submitted by augustus on

Hello,

I have to export stiffness and mass matrices from Abaqus (dynamical simulation)

and I have been using the commands *Matrix Generate and *Matrix Output

I need to export the matrices for different  instants of time  (time intervals) and I have noticed that the entries

of the MASS matrices are not equal at different  time points.

Composite Manufacturing Process Modeling Using Poromechanics

Submitted by Mohammad Rouhi on

Modeling and simulation of manufacturing of advanced composite material is a must in today's industry as the use of advance composites is increasing dramatically. The aim is to reduce the number of trial and error by development of a simulation tool to model and predict the manufacturing fundamental phenomena happening simultaneously in different scales. Poromechanics is a multidisciplinary and multiphysics concept which can be used to achieve this goal.

Intern Opening at Apple

Submitted by Jie-Hua Zhao on

You will be working on stress simulation of electronic components and sensors with a group of brilliant minds here in Apple’s Headquarters. You are a graduate student with good academic standing majoring in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics or similar engineering fields. You are a good programmer and familiar with Python. You must be authorized to work in US. The intern position is open immediately. Send your resume to Jeff Zhao (jhzhao at apple.com).

Deformation gradient change in Abaqus

Submitted by ratgem.shetty on

Help needed!! in Abaqus

I have UMAT written to update stress and material tangent components for a user defined material model. I need stretch ratio as an input for my material model. For this I am using deformation gradient from UMAT. Problem is, when there is constant strain (strain rate = 0), for example when material stretched to 100% strain (rubber) and then held at that strain for certain time to see stress relaxation, the deformation gradient should give the same value of 100% strain, but to my surprise this is changing. Can any one help me with this.
