Meshing difficulty in viscoelastic constrained layer damping

Submitted by KolluruK on
Hi,

I am simulating constrained layer damping with viscoelastic layer in Abaqus.

Used 3D continuum element - C3D20R for base an face sheet and and same with hybrid

formulation C3D20RH for visco tape.

In FE mesh, I tied the nodes (through tie constraint) of base with that of visco tape and

also the visco tape with that of face sheet. But in the deformed mode shape, I am finding

ABAQUS Explicit - defining boundary conditions and imposed displacement on rigid bodies

Submitted by pirs on

Hello there,

I am currently trying to model a cold-formed steel beam experiment, where load is applied through displacement control. I thought using ABAQUS/Explicit and perform a quasi-static analysis would be a good idea.

However, I have found an error I have not yet been able to overcome, and the results are not as I expected.

Here's the warning message:

how to calcualte total reaction force in a plane in ABAQUS

Dear all,

This is my first post in iMechanica forum.

I am trying to some simulation of cantilever beam bending in abaqus. Since the aspect ratio is pretty low (height/diameter~=2), I use 3D solid element instead of 2D beam element to construct the beam. I set the deflection at the free-end as the boundary condition, and try to solve the reaction force (perpendicular to the beam longitudinal axis). But I get in trouble to calculate the total reaction force at the free-end.

Section assignments for large assemblies in ABAQUS CAE

I am getting started with ABAQUS, and so far, I have had to assign a section property to every part of the assembly, which takes a long time for large assemblies. Often the entire assembly has the same section assignment. Is there a way to assign the same section to various instances?

I thank you all in advance.

defining points in 3d, changing coordinates system ABAQUS script

Submitted by hermatician on

hey guys please help me,

i need to define my revolution points i.e. the circle by x.y.z. coordinates and i dont know how to do that.

if that is not possible please tell me how can i change the system to cyclindrical coordinates please.

 i
have to draw a spring and for that i know the points in cylindrical
system. i cant define in 2d as for less than 90 degree it will not be in
xz or you know like that plane. it will also be helful to define plane
if i can.

Plywood box under pressure on ABAqus

Submitted by Manaliac on

Hello everyone,

I am working right now on a plywood box simply supported by wedges under a uniform pressure of 1 MPa.

The pressure is applicated through a rigid shell part layed on the top of the box ( a surface to surface contact). The bottom of the box is on contact (surface to surface) with the rigid shell wedges (2 on the corner of the box and 1 on the middle).

As a boundary condition, all the DOF's of the wedges are constrained.
