Hi, dear all,

I am facing problem on differentiating left Cauchy deformation tensor and right Cauchy deformation tensor.

thanks for notes in http://www.engin.umich.edu/class/bme456/ch3strain/bme456straindef.htm, i can derive the them in terms of mathematical equation, but i cannot differentiate them in engineering modelling filed.

From what i read is

need suggestion

hello all,

I am M.tech from Indian Institute of Technology Bombay and planning PhD in the field of finite elemnt methods.

Currently I am working as a Finite element analyst and developing automation tools in order to reduce human efforts. I use python, Tcl-tk, Ansys APDL, Visual Basic, Fortran most frequently. I have built number of user functionalities, user customization and user subroutines using ANSYS and ABAQUS.

How to calculate the flexural rigidity of a composite plate

Hi there,

I need help on how to calculate the flexural rigidity (D) of an orthotropic plate. For instance, if I have a composite plate that has 2 plies. Ply 1 has Young's modulus of E1 and E2 with Poison ratio of V12, whilst Ply 2 has 2E1 and 0.5E2 with 1.2*V12.

Safety Factor and Material Factor or Amod, what is the difference?

Hello, everyone! When talking about allowable stress, Safety Factor is introduced. While in offshore engineering, there are allowable stress modifier in API and material factor in NPD. So what is the difference between safety factor and allowable stress modifier or material factor? Are they used in special load conditions?

You help will be appreciated. Many thanks!

what's the detail reasons that one material model can only suitable for some specific (not all) element formulation in LS-DYNA?

it's a basic problem. In LS-DYNA, with explicit or implicit method, one material model is only suitable for some element formulations/types, but not for all element types. There must be many deep reasons and some aspects to be considered.

why element formulation can not independent on material model?

could you tell me some detailed deep reasons or links about this? thanks!

Hello everyone,

I need some help regarding the definition of initial residual stresses and plastic strains in a shell finite element (S4R) model in ABAQUS/Explicit.

I have determined the residual stress distributions and initial plastic strains and I need to assign these distributions to a given element set.

I understand I should be looking at:

*INITIAL CONDITIONS, TYPE=STRESS

 ELSET_A, S11, S22, S33

cyclic reaction force in abaqus explicit

Hi All,

Recently I am doing the vehicle analysis in ABAQUS explicit. I defined the reference point in order to get the reaction force during loading. However, when I output the reaction force in the loading direction, the value is cyclic. I applied the velocity boundary condition and defined the amplitude. But what I thought is the reaction force should be constantly increase to some certain value and then decrease (due to damage defination), other than change with a period.
