finite element formultion for axisymmetric plate buckling

Submitted by Maxim K on

hi,

I'm looking for finite element formulation for
buckling (or vibration) of an axisymmetric plate. i went threw the whole
shelf in the library  and  didn't find something that i can implement
or  reference for a software i can integrate with matlab. i will be
grateful if you could  point me in the right direction.

Plane stress/strain thickness in ABAQUS

Submitted by gagimax on

Hi there!

I have a very short question. What is the exact meaning of "plane stress/strain thickness" in ABAQUS?

It is used when section is defined for 3D models and typically takes the value of 1. I'd also like to know what difference would it make if some other value is specified. I guess, I would know that if I knew the exact meaning (or maybe not?).

Thanks in advance for your answers!

Hello, imechanicians,

If you are (or to be) an experimentalist and have a good idea, please help me!

I have a Si - Si DCB and would like to initiate a crack and hold it as it is (similar to a crack initiated in mica with a razor blade) According to my calculation, I need something like 1 to 5 um thickness. It could be sometime like a wedge shape.

If you have any good idea, please give me a suggestion!

 Thank you,

Masa

Good morning, I am studying a cantilever hollow beam both with FEM (Ansys) and MULTYBODY (MSC Adams).

Do anybody knows why I get different mode shapes performing modal analysis with the two codes? (e.g. 3rd mode in Adams is torsional while ansys has not any torsion modes!!)

Thank you very much

Peizoelectric modelling in abaqus

Submitted by mechsrini on

i m struggling to model pzt in abaqus. when i meshed and submitted the job, it aborted giving the message that anisotropic material requires local coordinate system to be assigned for elements. i dunno how to do this. is the equation in constraint related to this?

wat is the purpose of equation option in constrain? the description givewn is not clear.

while doing pzt analysis should i ve to do it in multiple steps?

ma first problem is to capture the response of pzt while applying 100V alone. I m not applying any other mech load along with it.

ABAQUS-Postprocessing

Submitted by jyotshna on

I am working to develop a composite material model under pressure loading using ABAQUS. Can anyone tell me how to output stress-strain curves for the whole model? I can get stress-strain plots using Time-Hist Post processing for one element or node at a time but not for the whole model. Is there a way to get stress-strain plots for the whole composite?

Thanks for your help,

Jyotshna

Horizontal Vessel Support

Hellow colleagues

I'm an equipment designer and i need to verify the stresses on the shell of an horizontal vessel over 3 saddles. I don't want to make a FEA analysis because is quite expensive to me.

I ask for your colaboration to find a method, other than Zick's one (only applicable for two saddles), to calculate the stresses on an horizontal vessel over multiple saddle supports.
I'll appreciate if  anyone can suggest me some reference articles or bibliography.
Thanks
Martin

Ok, i have an euler beam having rectangular cross section. but it's shear center axis and neutral axis are different. how can i obtain the equation of motion of this beam for transverse vibrations?
any help??
