I am trying to simulate the interaction of two rectangular elastic rigid blocks embeded closely in a medium having relatively low elastic constant under simple shear condition. The space between two blocks was taken to be very low elastic constant. In the final result, I found the two blocks have overlapped to each other after a high finite strain value which is not true in practical. The blocks are supposed to keep distance among them. Can anybody suggest me how to avoid the overlapping?

Dear Users,

Is it possible to stop abaqus in one of the available debuggers (gdb, idb etc ). I am getting errors is my UMAT subroutine and when I try to insert print statements it crashes even faster.

any kinds of help is appreciated.

ABAQUS subroutine UTEMP difficulties

Submitted by NixonInnes on
I am currently having some issues with ABAQUS user subroutine, UTEMP. What I am essentially trying to achieve is to have a user defined material using UMAT, which is temperature dependant, and the temperature distribution defined by UTEMP.

I can't see anything wrong with my subroutines i think the isue may lie n my input file, but my knowledge of how to construct the input files is limited to none.

If anyone is able to help, I have attached my input and subroutine file.

The error I am recieving is:

Fracture Mode

Submitted by nggovind on

Hi.

there is a rotating shaft subjected to bending moment load. shaft has some stress concentration zones and stpes. Is there any fatigue software available to predict the infulence of stress gradient effect on the fatigue life? could any one clarrify that the crack will be in whcih mode.? (Mode I or II or II or Mixed mode type)?

Model of three layer Pavement in ANSYS

Hi everyone,

I am new in IMECHANICA. I am a MS student, doing my research on pavement overlay.

I want to model a three layer pavement in ANSYS and apply moving load. There will beinterface between the layers. How can I apply the load? If I marge and compress after meshing; is this the correct way to do that?

Thanks and regards

Dear all

I'm doing an analysis where i need to evaluate the contact area acoording to hertz theory.

I have a book which shows me every step, except for how to calculate two coefficients, and insteads gives me a table of calculated values.

For the contact patch dimensions a and b, i get the expression

where i need to determine m and n. My book (A swedish book without ISBN) simply states that m and n are functions of theta,

and writes a large table with m and n for different angles

The issue of the computation of the deformation gradient in Abaqus

Submitted by Malik Ait-Bachir on

Hi everybody,

I am trying to model an anisotropic hyperelastic material in plane stress under uniaxial tension

where W=Wiso +Wani= C10*(I1-3)+C4*(I4-1)2 .

When the load is parallel or perpendicular to the fiber direction, the deformation gradient returned by Abaqus matches the theoretical expression obtained after derivation of W.

However, when the fiber direction is neither parallel nor perpendicular to the load, the deformation gradient returned by Abaqus differs
