Non linear finite element analysis

Submitted by kajalschopra on

Hi,

I've been reading the book by Crisfield on Non linear Finite elment analysis-Volume 1

Basically, I've been reading the first 4 chapters as of now which can be summarized as follows:-

So far in Crisfield’s book, following has been covered/ done:

  1. Chapter 1 of Crisfield’s book gives an introduction to geometric non linearity. The concept of incremental method, Newton Raphson method and combined Newton Raphson are introduced through a single variable problem considering a shallow truss.

  1. In chapter 2 of Crisfield’d book, finite element equations are written for a shallow truss element and Fortran subroutines are provided for the same. Flowcharts for the corresponding subroutines are also given.

  1. In chapter 3 of Crisfield’s book, different strain measures are discussed. These include Green’s strain, Alminsi strain, Logarithmic strain. The idea is to use hese strain measures to study deep truss element which is discussed next. That is, these strain measures are used to derive finite element equations for a deep truss element.

  1. Chapter 4 introduces basic continuum mechanics

Based on the above study (which am doing for the first time) am still not getting the confidence level that I've really understtod all above.I have the follwoing questions-will be grateful if someone obliges/helps me:- A)Should I be doing some coding as I read?If yes, then, based on what I've read as of now what should be coded?B)  Can anyone explain the meaning/difference bnetween total Lagrangian and updated LAgrangian?C)Any tips on the pattern of tudying the above book will be appreciated--please please help!!!

with warm regards,kajal
