PhD positions in the field of micromechanics of polycrystals (metals and ceramics)
We have multiple (Direct) PhD positions in the field of micromechanics of polycrystals, e.g., metals and alloys as well as ceramics. Our research focuses on finite element modelling and diffraction-based characterization of deformation and fracture of polycrystalline materials. Currently our research themes include:
- Micromechanics of deformation:
- Hydrogen embrittlement.
- Fracture mechanics.
- (Crystal plasticity) finite element modeling.
- Diffraction based experimental techniques.
- Neutron irradiation effects on metal alloys.
Prospective candidates will be assessed based on how well they meet the following criteria:
- Excellent degree in their relevant discipline;
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills
The following skills are desirable:
- Ability to work with finite element packages, eg, ABAQUS.
- Ability to program in any of the following languages: Fortran, Matlab, or Python.
- Ability to conduct experiments using SEM, EBSD, TEM, and XRD.
- Abilitiy to develop or work with user materials subroutines (eg UMAT).
Application Procedure
Please email your CV, TOEFL/IELTS score, and cover letter to hamid.Abdolvand@uwo.ca.
