Temperature-dependence of mode I fracture toughness of a bulk metallic glass

Submitted by Parag Tandaiya on

Bulk Metallic Glasses were found to exhibit an intermediate temperature minimum in ductility. Does it also lead to an intermediate temperature minimum in fracture toughness?

We answer this question in our paper: 'Temperature-dependence of mode I fracture toughness of a bulk metallic glass'. In this work, we perform experiments and elasto-plastic finite element simulations to understand the temperature-dependence of mode I fracture toughness of a bulk metallic glass. This has implications for high temperature structural applications of BMGs.
