The ASME 2015 Applied Mechanics and Materials Conference (McMat2015) will be held in Seattle, Washington, USA, June 29-July 1, 2015. We are organizing a symposium at this conference - Symposium 17: Mechanics of Materials in Extreme Environments.
Many structural materials exhibit unique mechanical responses and failure mechanisms under extreme loading environments, e.g., with extreme loading/strain rates, temperatures, pressures, radiation, complex stress states, etc. Despite the progress made in the characterization and modeling of the materials subjected to various extreme loading conditions, challenges still remain. A need exits to develop an in-depth understanding of the mechanics of conventional structural materials and new engineering materials, such as additively manufactured materials and hierarchically nanostructrured materials, and to predict their behavior in extreme environments. The symposium will provide a forum for scientists and engineers world-wide to exchange ideas and present up-to-date research findings encompassing theoretical, computational, and/or experimental approaches that address the mechanics of materials in extreme environments. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the followings:
· Multiscale experimental mechanics of materials subjected to extreme environments, such as high loading/strain rates, high/low temperatures, high pressures, radiation, complex stress states, etc., and any combinations of the above
· Mechanical properties of materials subjected to extreme environments
· Environmental effect on the mechanical response of materials
· Environment (strain rate, temperature, chemistry, and/or radiation, … etc.) dependent material model development
· Mechanical behavior of engineering materials, biomaterials or biomimetic materials under blast wave
· Accelerated materials characterization of long-term behavior of materials under extreme environments
· Computational mechanics of materials approaches
· Multiscale modeling of materials subjected to extreme environments
· Validation and verification methodologies
· Quantification of uncertainties of experiments and computational models
We are inviting you to submit abstracts on any theoretical, computational, modeling, or experimental work related to any of the above topics. Please feel free to distribute and encourage your colleagues, students, and friends to submit abstracts to the symposium. The abstract submission is due on February 1st, 2015.
