Does anyone know the analytical solution for the stress within a elastic solid under uniaxial strain with small free surfaces?
This solution should account a sort of transition in the stress distribution from the edge towards the center.
example:
Let's suppose to have 2 rigid disks glued together with a soft adhesive material.
If one apply relative displacement between the 2 rigid disks, large part of the soft material will be under uniaxial strain because the trasversal strain are not allowed. Only close to the edge, where there is small free surface (adhesive thickness), the material is free to show transverstal deformation (contraction due to poisson's effect).
This will give a non uniform stress distribution in the adhesive, going from the middle to the edge.
Does anyone have the solution for this stress distribution?
