Ask for comments on my results from unit cell model of MMCs

Submitted by Charlietree on

Dear friends,

Could anyone be kind to share some comments on my interesting results? It is my first time to post a topic, hope to communicate more with the members here.

I am study the mechanical properties of MMCs composites by FEM. Since the unit cell model is the fundamental method to investigate the influence of the interface parameters on its properties, it is utilized in my research. It is interesting to find that almost all the published paper focused on the tensile process, while compressive process is rarely studied, especially with cohesive element or cohesive surface. Therefore, I attempted to build some compressive models and the results are as follows:

                                      Fig 1. Boundary condition

Fig 2. No tie constrain in the interface (Only hard contact and frictionless shear)

                                Fig 3. Cohesive surface interface

Could anyone help me explain the wierd phenomenon? I mean that the stress distribution is uneven at the beginning and then it scans round the matrix for several circulations, in the end it distributes uniformly in the matrix. Are they right?

Thanks for your help and looking forward to your comments.
