ABAQUS-buckling of thin cylindrical shell

Submitted by sragrawal on

hi,

I want to do buckling analysis of cylindrical shell in abaqus. In the abaqus documentation,it is written that along with simply supported condition  one has to fix a node to prevent rigid body motion. How can i prevent the rigid body motion?

Rigid body motion consists of 3 translations (3 DOF) and  3 rotations (3DOF) about global axes. You need to prevent these motion of the cylinder about these 6DOF such that the cylinder can deform in any form.

You can select a single node at the one end of the shell and constrain it to be hinged, while all other nodes at the same end will be supported by rollers.
