Need advise on HINGE element in ABAQUS

Submitted by kmmm on

Hi All,

Two layers of
shell element. I want to apply moment M1(x-axis) on edge1(both on layer1
and layer2) and edge2. As you can see from picture, the little green
points are attachment points I created on both layer1 and layer2. I
want to have all displacements of green points on layer2 to be the
same as green points on layer1(stick) but not the rotation. I
would like to control the "ROTATIONAL STIFFNESS" of green points on
layer2 by myself. For instance, If I assign "ROTATIONAL STIFFNESS" of
green points on layer2 equal to very low value(free to rotate), then I
expect to see layer2 just rotate without bending. On the other hand,
if I assign "ROTATIONAL STIFFNESS" of green points on layer2 very
high(resist rotation), then I expect to see layer2 bend along with
layer1. I created wires between both green points, created
connector section as "HINGE" since it seems to be the only connector
that fit my desire. As low value of hinge stiffness, D44-- F4 =
D44*U4--, the result look correct. When I assign high value of hinge
stiffness, it didn't work since layer2 still only rotate without bending
and ABAQUS also didn't converge. Any comments/suggestions are
welcome. Thanks in advance.
