I want to calculate the number of steps, the length of each step and the heigth of bending in order to create ,from a rectangle sheet metal(flat pattern) ,a cylindrical sheet metal with a known radius.
I know the final radius but I do not know how many step I must bend the sheet metal and in what heught do I have to bend it.
do you know where can I find a calculation

Folding a radius from flat sheet metal.
Hi John.
I've been folding sheet metal for about twenty five years. Step folding has become a bit of a speciality. Only today I had the pleasure of forming a double ellipse shaped lighting assembly. I'm sure I can provide you with all necessary calculations that you require, John. This can be a fairly complicated and many facetted procedure, or, very simple, depending on machinery available. etc.
Most of my work needs to be cosmetically perfect, so, my step folding is usually close together, using many folds, to eliminate visible marking on the finished product. If you can tell me what you want to make, and tell me about the machinery you have access to etc. I'm sure we can figure out the ideal calcs and method for you, sir.
Regards. Dieter.
