EM 388F Term Paper

Assignment: Each student completes a term paper of selected topics that (a) addresses a fracture phenomenon in materials or structures, and (b) involves analyses using fracture mechanics. The project contributes 25% of the final grade, distributed as follows:

  • 5%: April 7 (Monay). Post your title and abstract in iMechanica, using the following format:
  1. Title (e.g., EM 388F Term Paper: Fracture in Biological Materials).
  2. Tags (EM 388F, Spring 2008, University of Texas at Austin, fracture mechanics, term paper, plus others related to your topic)
  3. Body: (i) Describe the fracture phenomenon. (ii) Explain how fracture mechanics analysis can be performed. (iii) Cite at least 1 journal article.
  • 10%: April 28 and 30. Give a 15-minute presentation. Use power point slides.
  • 10%: May 9 (Friday). Upload a pdf file of your final term paper as an attachment to the same blog entry as your abstract.
