This is a somehow "heretic" paper that studies IGA under a different prism. The Introduction and the Discussion are of major importance.

After my presentation at the 9th German-Greek-Polish Conference in September 2016, followed by some further papers, and a visit to Germany (TUM) in June 2017 under the ERASMUS Program where I presented the topic "Precursors of IGA" in front of about 20 expert researchers of IGA, I decided to write a Springer book on the same topic.

The abovementioned book is a résumé of author’s research work and contribution in this field for the last 35 years (since 1984). The book unifies and substantially extends the contents of 60 papers in the field of CAD-based macroelements, which are the precursors of the so-called IsoGeometric Analysis (IGA).
