LG Fuel Cell Systems Inc Internship

LG Fuel Cell Systems Inc. ("LGFCS") is a solid oxide fuel cell ("SOFC") company focused on development of a one (1)MW SOFC power system for distributed generation applications. The company has two major share holders, LG Corp. and Rolls-Royce PLC, and facilities in the United States (North Canton, Ohio - headquarters), the United Kingdom (Derby) and Korea (Seoul). Product development has been focused on rapid development of a prototype system into the commercial market.

The position is within the Ceramics and Reliability Team supporting the development, testing and analysis of the ceramic components used in the construction of the LGFCS solid oxide fuel cells with the objective of insuring their structural reliability.

The intern will perform mechanical property characterization of porous and dense ceramic and glass-ceramic materials including strength, fracture toughness and slow-crack growth over a range of temperatures. Relate mechanical properties to microstructure features. Perform metallographic preparation and SEM evaluation of materials. Prepare ceramic test specimens through powder pressing/sintering processes and characterize starting powders. Apply materials science knowledge further the understanding of the ceramic materials,and perform literature searches, summarize and review the progress in public domain, give presentation and recommend action plan/direction for future development.

 What we need:

• Must be a junior standing level in Materials Science Engineering
• Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above required.
• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Power Point.
