What is exactly the 'pressure' of a solid in thermodynamics?

Submitted by xiashengxu on

Most literatures on thermodynamics are written or started with the language of 'ideal gas'.

This confuses me a lot when I switch to consider solids. For example, the enthalpy of a system
is defined as H = U + P*V, where P is the pressure of the 'system'. This definition is found to be convenient
when dealing with gas. But in terms of solids, I really doubt if the 'pressure' is meaningful. The volume makes
sense but its relation with energy should be expressed in another way when we consider for example cold-
work.

creating a zero-thickness layer using ABAQUS 6.13

i have concrete slab and cfrp sheet i want to strength that slab with cfrp sheet so i try to model the epoxy layer as a cohesive layer between them the issue is when creating the orphan meshing which can be done by mesheing all instances as a normal mesh then selecting the slab and cfrp and go to mesh/creat mesh part after that go to mesh/edit and then selecting mesh/offset(creat solid layers) and now abaqus requires to select the element faces from which the offset will be generated so i selected the cfrp surafce that must be sticked to the slab by epoxy and then i create the set and assig

INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON COMPUTATIONAL METHOD IN VIBRATION AND ACOUSTIC, MARCH 16-21, 2015

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

The aim of the workshop is to gather experts from all over the world to update advances in computational methods in vibration and acoustics and to foster an environment conducive to exchanging ideas and information. The workshop will provide a common platform to bring together researchers, engineers, scientists, scholars and students to exchange and share their new ideas in broader domain of vibration and acoustics and discuss the practical challenges encountered and the solutions adopted.

What is the difference between specifying a velocity (axial and/or rotational) condition in the boundary condition or the Predefined field

Submitted by khalchris on

What is the difference between defining a velocity condition (axial and/or rotational) in the boundary condition option and the Predefined field option.

it seems that they both work when I define them for the same case I am working on?

Many thanks
