Several PhD student positions available at the MAE department of University of Central Florida, Orlando, FL

Submitted by Yuanli Bai on

There are several PhD student positions available immediately at the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering of the University of Central Florida (UCF). Students will work on a recent DOE funded project on Cu(Al)/CNT metallic matrix nano composites. Students with background in solid mechanics, finite element analysis, or nano material processing are particularly encouraged to apply. If you are interested, please send your resume and representative publications (if have) to Dr. Yuanli Bai (bai [at] ucf.edu) or Dr. Quanfang Chen (Quanfang.chen [at] ucf.edu). The openings are for either Spring 2017 or Fall 2017. Excellent candidates can also be nominated to apply for fellowships of university level.

The 3rd Sandia Fracture Challenge is here!

Submitted by Sharlotte Kramer on

The third Sandia Fracture Challenge is here!  We invite to you participate in this next installment of our collaborative, blind assessment of predictions of ductile fracture.  For the third SFC, we wanted to challenge the computational mechanics community to predict ductile fracture in an additively manufactured structure.

Dynamic Rolling Process Simulation

Submitted by Hassan Nazari on

 Dear All,

Recently, I am simulation a rolling process with a very high dynamic speed (around 5 m/s). Hence, the model is quite dynamic and not Quasi-static.

I use Abaqus Explicit for this simulation. The structure is composite material including several layers with different material properties. In this case, I am using ''Cohesive Surface'' definition as the surface interaction between different layers.

I have a big problem and there is an error during the simulation process so called:

Contact stiffness estimation based on structural frequency response

Submitted by xwling on

If you work on contact mechanics, or have difficulty get your FEA model converge due to contact, you may find it beneficial reading my patent on "Contact stiffness estimation based on structural frequency response". It forms a first ever rational method to estimate the contact stiffness, and provides a practical technical solution to a real challenge in contact mechanics. For industrial FEA developers or users, please contact me for the right to commercialize or implement it. Thank you!

I need PhD student exchange for doing laboratory experiments on commercially pure titanium dental implant fracture

Submitted by dawit2012 on

If any one have the idea how to get join other university in America,Canada for doing or sharing labratory for my reaserch dental implant mechanical fracture due to different factors before implant and after implant during function or non function of the implant. I am a PhD student at National Taiwan University of Science and Technology(NTUST), here i will heat treat to add some strength to the titanium like ECAP (equal channel angle press) to be at SPD and then quenched.
