Ph.D. Candidate Position on “Characterization of the local mechanical behavior of elastomer materials by instrumented nanoindentation”
One Ph.D. candidate position is available in the Fall 2017 in the Elastomer Research Center (Cermel) at the Laboratory of Mechanics and Rheology (LMR) in the Polytechnic School of the University of Tours in France.
Job description
The aim of this Ph.D. is to extend the comprehension of the local mechanisms involved in elastomer materials, in order to faithfully reproduce their behavior in finite element models. The Ph.D. applicant is expected to carry out both theoretical and experimental work.
Multi-scale finite element modelling of magnesium medical devices
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for two full-time Postdoctoral Researcher positions on the finite element simulation of magnesium orthopaedic implants. These three year fixed term positions are funded through a US-Ireland R&D Partnership Programme involving collaboration between the SFI Centre for Research in Medical Devices (Cúram), the NSF Engineering Research Centre Revolutionizing Metallic Biomaterials (RMB, USA), and the Nanotechnology and Integrated Bioengineering Centre (NIBEC, Northern Ireland).
Interested candidates should send a CV to patrick.mcgarry@nuigalway.ie
The start date for both positions is September-November 2017.
Patient-specific total hip replacements
Corin’s OPS™ technology now enables the surgeon to understand the individual motion profile of each patient before their surgery. This gives the surgeon the information required to identify, customise and deliver a personalised total hip replacement, specifically designed to optimise biomechanics and functional joint performance. This is driven by a simple imaging protocol, featuring Simpleware software, used to generate key inputs to simulate the unique way in which patients perform their normal everyday activities.
Post Doc positions at the University of Florida
There are two post doc positions at the University of Florida in the group of Prof Katerina E. Aifantis. One focuses on experimental aspects, such as materials synthesis and electrochemical cycling of Li-ion batteriles, while the other on dislocation dynamics and atomistic simulations. Those with a stong publication record are encouraged to apply by emailing at kaifanti [at] mtu.edu. The position starts on August 1.
PhD Student openings at University of Florida
There are two PhD openings for the Dept of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Florida under the supervision of Prof. Katerina E. Aifantis. One position focuses on experimental aspects such as materials synthesis for energy and bio applications, while the other on continuum mechanics. Students who have a Master's Degree and have publications in these fields are encouraged to apply. Please submit your CVs and cover letter to kaifanti [at] mtu.edu
