The Department of Mechanical, Industrial and Systems Engineering invites applications at the Assistant Professor level from outstanding individuals with demonstrated expertise or research potential in Advanced Solid Mechanics applied to Extreme Environments. Specific areas of interest include, but are not limited to, loading of materials as a result of in-air or underwater blast or explosion, implosion of structures, impact mechanics, dynamic response of materials under extreme temperatures or pressures, saline or maritime conditions, and dynamic fracture fragmentation. Applicants are expected to have either a strong experimental background, or be expert in the computational modeling of solids under extreme loading conditions.

A nonlinear static analysis of a masonry church by NOSA-ITACA

The last tutorial (Tutorial4) about a non linear static analysis of a masonry church performed by the NOSA-ITACA code, is now available at http://www.nosaitaca.it/software/. We perform the analysis supposing the structure made of two masonry-like materials with zero tensile strength and bounded compressive strength and a linear elastic material.

JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowships in Japan - 2 years - Deadline 10th August

Dear Friends,

I am looking for a postdoctoral candidate who wishes to apply for a JSPS (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science) fellowship.

This fellowship is a highly competitive scheme and includes a generous monthly salary (at the current exchange rate, around 3000 Euro or 3300 $) plus airfare (round-trip ticket to Japan).

I will support the application as a host and will help writing the proposal.
Applicants are allowed to suggest their own project, but preference will be given to candidates with experience and interest in two topics:
