hello,

I am a mechanic eng. M.S student with interest on material science-energy-applied mechanic and the fields like this.

could anyone tell me what are the recent projects are doning in fuel cell field? are the people doing structural mechanical research on fuel cells and etc?

as projcet going to be done at 2011 what are the newest topics?

Mass Participation factor

Submitted by prksh on

Dear all,

I am doing 3d modal analysis using Ansys. When I checked the "Effective Mass-EM" for rotational dof, it is very large compared with total mass of the model. can you share your ideas for this question.Run simulation upto 90% of EM in all dof or only in translation dof or only for 2 translation dof (any rule of thumb)?

 Thanks in advance.

XFEM and Cohesive Behavior combined in Abaqus

Submitted by vallejom@unm.edu on

Hello,

I would like to combine Extended Finite Element Method (XFEM) with cohesive behavior in Abaqus to model bulk damage as well as interlaminar damage in a material.

Section 10.6.1 of the Abaqus 6.9 Analysis Users Manual says that XFEM "can be simultaneously used with the surface-based cohesive behavior approach or the Virtual Crack Closure Technique, which are best suited for modeling interfacial delamination."

Does anyone know if XFEM can be combined with element-based cohesive behavior?

Thank you,

Meghan
