Fatigue life calculation - reporting stress

Submitted by onkar bhise on

For fatigue life estimation (HCF & LCF), I am not sure which stress shall I consider i.e. max. principal stress or von Mises stress & what should be the criteria for selection of the same? Shall we be driven by material model (i.e. ductile or brittle) or mode of failure or some thing else?

Not converged for modelling crack propagation

Submitted by Chris Yang on

Hello! I am modelling crack propagation in concrete specimen under direct tension by using cohesive element in ABAQUS as the interface where crack will propagate. By setting up the proper values of the parameters, I could model the exact behavior prior to the cracking, however, when changing some parameters to get the interface cracked, the model committed to be diversed. I have tried some little skills like viscosity and energy disspation fraction, but it was still not working.

Two NSF-funded graduate research assistantships in computational structural mechanics and optimization

Submitted by Masoud Rais-Rohani on

Highly qualified applicants are sought for two graduate research assistant positions in the areas of computational structural mechanics and design optimization.  The selected candidates will enroll in a PhD program in engineering and work with a team of researchers at the Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems (CAVS) in the Bagley College of Engineering at Mississippi State University.

INRIA (the French national institute for research in computer science and control) has currently eight centres, and the Opale Project-Team is primarily located in the Sophia Antipolis Centre, near the city of Antibes. Our research focuses on functional and numerical analysis, and numerical simulation, with a special emphasis on optimization in science and engineering (compressible aerodynamics, electromagnetics, structural design, etc) with strong links with industry.

Immediate Vacancy Exists in Computational Nanomechanics

Submitted by meguid on

An Immediate vacancy exists for high calibre  postdoctoral fellows with interest in multiscale computational nanomechanics, nano-modified composites,  testing and validation. Specifically, we are interested in determining the influence of nanofillers on polymer composites. Candidates should expect excellent facilities, good salaries and exceptional working conditions.
