Hello everyone

I model a reinforced concrete column in ansys .

after loading the model three types of crack will exist in it . ( First Crack,Second crack,Third Crack)

I want to know what difference between those .

is differences between those due to time of their existance or for other reasons  ?

If diffrence due to time of their existance , what criteria for time is considered ?

ABAQUS FEA Simulation for Beam on Elastic Foundation

   I am recently encounter a problem concerning defining beam on elastic foundation model in ABAQUS.

   Could someone please give me some instructions to set up that model or give me some hints about that?

Instantaneous centre of rotation

Classic undergraduate textboooks on rigid body kinematics (e.g. Hibbeler, Beer & Johnston, etc) point to a quite simple way to locate the instantaneous centre of rotation (ICR) for plane motion of rigid bodies. It came to my mind the idea of using the centre of the osculating circle to any particle belonging to the rigid body as a means to identify the ICR for a 3D motion. Further, I'm thinking about exploring if whether an ICR of zero acceleration can also be located this way. Does anybody know if there's been an attemtp at this idea?

concrete model does not converge

I am working on a simple concrete model. The model fails
to converge for relatively smaller loads. I am not very proficient with
abaqus. If someone can tell me what to tweak to get it running, I'll be
grateful.

Please take a look at the inp file attached.

Young's modulus

Hi all,

I have this confusing thought for a quite long time. 

Is there any relation between the time-independent Young's modulus with
the time-dependent Young's modulus (instantaneous and equilibrium
moduli or loss and storage moduli)?

If yes, what is the equation to relate them?

So many terminologies which make this confusion!

Please help.

Finding all roots of a nonlinear function

I need to find all possible roots of a nonlinear function in six
variables y = f(x_1,x_2,x_3,x_4,x_5,x_6), where 0 <= x_i <=
x_max. The function is not available in closed form. I saw there are
some methods available (e.g., http://www.springerlink.com/content/y8g01h854693g876/). Could someone point me to a code I can directly use ?

Mechanical properties of self-assembled monolayers

I did some preliminary study on free-standing self-assembled monolayer (only 1 nm thick). Bulge test was used to determine the elasticity and residual stress in the membrane. I just took the model from Prof. Vlassak's paper (J mater. Res 7,1992,3242). Althought the model could explain the data very well.
