Postdoc position at Northwestern University – AI-empowered Computational Mechanics

Position Description: The Wing Kam Liu group in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Northwestern (PI: Professor Wing Kam Liu) invites applications for a postdoctoral position in AI-empowered computational mechanics with a joint appointment through HIDENN-AI, Inc., (co-founded by Prof. Liu)

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop an agentic AI system in the field of computer-aided engineering (CAE).
  • Develop and apply techniques in one of the following areas:
    • Generative AI in CAE.
    • Reduced-order modeling in computational mechanics: complex geometry, constitutive models, mesh generation, etc.
    • Fatigue and fracture analysis.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Contribute to mentoring students and shaping future research directions within the group.

 

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mechanics, Civil Engineering, and Computer Science, or a closely related field.
  • Excellent programming skills.
  • Publication record in the technical areas listed above.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States.
