Open-Rank Faculty Position in Combustion/Propulsion

The Department of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is seeking candidates at all academic ranks for a full-time faculty position beginning as early as August 16, 2011. The Department seeks exceptional candidates for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position with expertise in the fundamental science and engineering of computational combustion and/or propulsion, including multi-phase reactive flows, energetic materials, alternative fuels (including sustainable and clean fuels), micro-combustion or micro-propulsion. Outstanding candidates with expertise in other aspects of combustion or propulsion, or other areas of fluid mechanics in general, including those with an exceptional experimental background, will also be considered.
The Aerospace Engineering Department has strong teaching, research and outreach programs in the areas of Fluid Mechanics and Propulsion, Structural Mechanics and Materials, and System Dynamics and Controls. The University of Illinois has also had a strong history of outstanding research in computational science and engineering, and is the home of the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) and the NSF-funded Blue Waters sustained-petaflop supercomputer.
Applicants must hold an earned Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, and will be expected to maintain a vigorous independent research program and perform academic duties associated with our B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. programs.
